Safety

This larp contains a lot of themes that could be considered triggering or problematic from a modern stand-point. In general, many of these themes will be dealt with within specific families or dynamics and will therefore not necessarily be an active part of everyone’s game. However, they will be present in the larp.

Some of these are:

  • Sexual coercion
  • Sexual abuse
  • Domestic abuse
  • Active queerphobia
  • Bullying
  • Loss of a child, sibling and/or spouse
  • Parental neglect
  • Miscarriages
  • Infidelity
  • Relationships with big age differences and power imbalances
  • Discrimination based on class, wealth, and gender

We also wish to remind you that this is a larp where it’s perfectly acceptable for cousins to marry.

During the larp we will use meta techniques to escalate and de-escalate situations, as well as to simulate sex and fighting. In short, the meta techniques (that will also be workshopped on-site) are:

  • Saying ”off-game” to quickly calibrate something off-game.
  • Tap out, which can either be physical or verbal. This is used to take a step back from a sequence of events but not break the scene.
  • ”Look down” to remove yourselves from situations without it being played on.
  • Theatre sex with underwear on to simulate penetrative sex. For other types of sex we use a hand technique, where the hand represents genitals.
  • Fighting should in general not happen at the larp. If it does then we use a grappling technique to simulate this.
  • Real things that do not necessarily have a meta technique (unless you and your co-player agree on it): Kissing, slapping, groping. However, all of these are unusual things that we expect will not be widespread in the larp and that should therefore be calibrated with the people beforehand or in the moment.

The larp will not have a designated safety room or person, but the organisers and crew will always be available for you if you need to talk, and it is possible to go for off-game walks outside or to your room if you need to be by yourself for a little while.
